Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)

Accessory dwelling units, or ADUs, are secondary housing unit added onto a single-family residential property, sharing a lot with a primary detached home. An increasingly popular tool help address the affordable housing crisis, ADUs are also known as granny flats, backyard cottages, laneway houses, secondary suites, garden suites, coach houses, among other names. They can take a range of forms, including a backyard house, a garden pavilion or a retrofitted garage.
